About Us

Hilltop House is a long-term care home in Squamish, which is owned and operated by Vancouver Coastal Health. There are 86 residents with complex care needs who require 24 hour professional supervision unavailable in their own homes. Over 60 of the residents are in wheelchairs. A number of residents have lived at Hilltop House for over 15 years and some will continue to call Hilltop House home for decades to come.

The residents can range in age from young adult to over 100 years old and therefore have a wide range of interests. Hilltop House activity initiatives are heavily supported by local volunteers and many of these activities are funded by the Hilltop House Support Society.

The Society was originally formed in 1992, by family members of the residents, to purchase a wheelchair accessible van. This was to enable residents to go on regular outings and remain part of the local community. We are now continuing to maintain this service with a new custom-built bus.

Over the years, the Society has also raised funds for many items including, gazebos, barbecues, garden improvements, a workshop, kitchen appliances, furniture, etc. Programmes, such as yoga and cooking classes are often initiated by the residents and provided with the support of the Society.

There are ongoing activities including monthly Social Hours with entertainment and Friday Night Dinners which provide home cooked meals for many of the residents every week. Christmas parties and events are organised throughout the year for the residents, family and friends.

MEETING 2.jpg

The Society members meet at Hilltop House on the second Thursday of each month at 10:00 am and new members are always welcomed. Attendance at the meeting is not a requirement for becoming a volunteer.
